Thank you for everyone's support over the year. WIA was able to hold a series of successful and wonderful events because of your enthusiastic participation. We were honored to serve you and we hope you will continue with your involvement and concerns with WIA next year as well as women in architecture in general.

Let us know what you liked, what you disliked, what you wish we had done, what you think we should do more, anything about the organization in general or specific activities, etc., anything you can think of. Bar Crawl is this Friday night starting at 7pm at Murphy's. For schedule, please see the side on the right. Come by whenever you can and look for our officers. Bar crawl t-shirts are ready for pick-up from Lucy. She can be reached at 207 TBH 1:30-5pm MWF. Due to some lovely WIA funding, the shirts are only $5 each, so please remember to bring that when you pick up your shirt. We have all sorts of sizes but it's on first come first serve basis. So hurry and get your shirt!

And remember that the Girl Scouts Architecture Badge Volunteering is this Saturday, April 23rd, 9am to 1pm! We will be meeting in Plym Auditorium at first and then move out as the program goes. We need volunteers to lead the girls in various activities so they can obtain their Architecture Badge. This is a awesome opportunity for you to give out what you've learned from studio, structure classes, history classes, etc. More details here. Don't miss out and sign up now!

From the Architecture Calendar, "AIAS and WIA presents the Spring 2005 Rendering Workshop on April 6th. This workshop will include hands-on presentations of marker rendering and sketch techniques with reception to follow. Visit www.aiasillinois.org for a complete list of required materials to bring. Pre-registration is encouraged; please email intvp@aiasillinois.org by April 4."
The Rendering Workshop will be from 7pm to 8:30pm. Prof. Warfield will start off the workshop with his views on photography. Then we have Jack Swing who will teach us rendering and sketching with tips.
We need 5 people to help us set up at 6:30pm and 2 people to help clean up at 8:30pm. Let Dani <wia-arch@uiuc.edu> know if you can help.

1. Nursing Home Bingo nite is this Wednesday! Sign up to get more info!!
2. April's General Meeting has been changed to March 31st and it will be a tour to the WILL-AM-FM-TV building on campus with women architects from the Central Illinois Chapter of AIA. We will also be having dinner with them afterward. It is your chance to meet some real architects (who are not professors (maybe))!!!
3. We will be guiding a few girl scout troops for them to obtain their architecture badges. We need volunteers to be the guides and it's you that we choose! Sign up now and teach them about architecture!
A collective sign-up is here on this page on the right so when you sign up for multiple events, you don't have to enter your name and email address multiple times. Of course, you can sign up for just one event with this collective sign-up, too. But wouldn't it be more fun to check ALL the checkboxes?? You know you want to do that~
New info on Chicago Firms Tour! We've got permissions to visit Hutter Architects and Ross Barney and Jankowski Architects in Chicago! Find out more about it here. And don't forget to sign up! We are in need of volunteer drivers. If you have a vehicle and can take passengers with you, please let us know!! Drivers will be reimbursed for gas and parking expenses.
Sign-up for our last social event of the year is up. We are going bar crawl on the night of April 29th. T-shirts are being designed for the event. Let us know if you want to come so we know how many t-shirts to order! Don't miss out the fun before final exams start and the chance to add another bar crawl t-shirt to your collection!

Sign up sheet (on the right) is up for the Nursing Home Bingo Night! To volunteer, simply fill in your name and email! Bingo Night is March 16. We will leave around 6pm. Our ultimate goal for this project is to help them build a computer room. So don't miss out the opportunity for more architectural volunteering!!! More details on the project.

Opportunities has one new scholarship from the National Association of Women in Construction. The scholarship ranges from $1,000 to $2,000. Deadline is March 15, 2005. Take a look at it.

Habitat information meeting is this coming Monday, 2/21, at Plym Auditorium in TBH! Dinner will be served at 6:30pm and the presentation will start around 7pm. Laura Huth, Executive Director, and Jeanette Lang, Volunteer Coordinator, from the Champaign County Habitat for Humanity will be coming to speak to us about the Habitat process, volunteering, and anything else you would like to know! So bring your friends and don't miss out the opportunity and food!

Confirmed: Chicago Firms Tour will take place on Friday, April 8. We will be having lunch with former president of Chicago Women in Architecture, prominent member of AIA Chicago, and UIUC Architecture alumna, Melissa Bogusch. Firms that we will be touring will be announced later. Be sure to check back!
Volunteering opportunities! WIA will be co-hosting a rendering workshop on an early April evening (tentatively Apr 6th, 7-9pm). Volunteers are needed for publicity (ie. getting the word out, posting flyers), planning, budgeting, setup during the day, etc. Email Lucy <wia-arch@uiuc.edu> if you're interested in helping.
Also, WIA is in charge of doing Food in the Atrium next Wednesday, Feb 16th. We need a few volunteers to help sell pizza! Email Dani <wia-arch@uiuc.edu> if you are available at any point between 11:30 and 1:30 on Wednesday afternoon.

We are proud to announce that Laura Huff, Volunteer Coordinator of Habitat for Humanity for Champaign and Piatt Counties, has accepted our invitation to come speak to us about Habitat. She will be here at our Habitat meeting and explain how Habitat works and how you can get involved! So don't miss the opportunity to do some volunteer work and learn how to build a house at the same time! The meeting is Feb. 21 at 7pm, location TBA. After the presentation, we will start planning on how to help right away. Don't miss it!
In addition to the Habitat project and others, we'll also be helping in designing and building a computer room at a local nursing home and assisting the Girl Scouts obtain their architecture badges. More details to be announced.

A recap of the art auction earlier in the year. We earned over three hundreds dollars and all thanks to the people who attended and contributed. WIA especially thanks Professor Kelvin Hinders, Professor Art Kaha, Professor Jeffery Poss, and Professor Robert Selby for donating their works. We greatly appreciate it. October 30th is WIA's fundraising silent auction. Faculty and students are encouraged to donate their works (ie. sketches, photographs, paintings, (class) projects, etc) for bidding. Submit yours and see how much your work is worth! We will make copy of an original on our expense if you do not want to give us the original. And your own duplicate is always welcomed. So, don't wait and submit your work and show the school!!
And make sure you email Dani a paragraph or two of your experience and qualifications to apply for a position in our organization!! (For positions listing, please see Sept. 16th's entry.)

Officers:
Publicity Chair - Responsible for general publicity for WIA. This includes posters, fliers, chalkboard announcements, etc. Candidate should be creative and reliable!
Committee Positions:
Fund Raising Programmer - Be in charge of helping us coordinate our silent auction at the end of October, as well as helping WIA figure out new and exciting ways to raise money!
Rendering Workshop - Be in charge of working with WIA and AIAS in order to plan and publicize the Rendering Workshop on February 5th. This is a great way to learn how to organize and coordinate events in the School.
Alumni Relations - Responsible for getting in touch with WIA alums. This is a great opportunity to network for possible future internships or employment while getting involved with our organization. Staying in touch with the alumni can provide WIA with vast resources for lectures, field trips, and job searches so this position is especially important!

WIA is back from summer break! We'll be having our Kick-off meeting on Monday, Sept. 13, at 7:30pm, location to be announced.
