M ARCH Univ of Texas at Austin 1995

"When I first entered architecture school in the Fall of 1989, my interest in architecture was related to houses and tall buildings. As I progressed through my four years at the U of I, my interest continued to grow, strengthen and diversify to include a strong focus on history and design. I won Third Prize in the Earl Prize Competition for Design in Fall 1991 and Spring 1992. I also participated in the Masonry Competition Studio during Fall 1992. I cannot say enough positive things about the U of I program and its faculty. I believe the best gift I received from the instructors was the confidence to continue on in the profession. They saw something in me, brought it out, and made me believe in myself, enough to pursue a Master of Architecture degree at the University of Texas at Austin. Spending two years in Austin was a wonderful experience. Although I missed the familiarity of the U of I campus, I welcomed the change in landscape, vernacular architecture and architectural philosophy. I further strengthened my interests in history, design, theory and computers. After graduation from UT in 1995, I joined the firm of PHN Architects, headed by alum Neil Pollock, as the only female architecture staff person at that time. I have been with PHN ever since, working on projects ranging from golf course clubhouses to parks, playgrounds, assisted living facilities and collegiate architecture. I currently serve as Vice President of Chicago Women in Architecture and on the Board of Directors for the Northeast Illinois AIA Chapter."
