Fifth Annual ARUPLA Open House, March 11th and 12th 2005

get involved

ARUPLA stands for Architecture, Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture. Whether you are interested in the design field for a career, or simply wish to see what goes on inside of the walls of your house, it will be worth the trip to Champaign, IL.

The ARUPLA Open House was originally designed for recruitment and outreach. The first year, we just wanted the community around us to have an opportunity to learn about what we were doing and why the design of the built environment is important to everyone. The weekend has grown from there.

On March 11 and 12, 2005, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, students from the School of Architecture and the Departments of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture will host our fifth annual ARUPLA Open House. The fundamental vision of the event remains unchanged, but the scope has been expanded significantly. We have reached out to the community, to the University, and to our own faculty and students. We have actively sought out community groups who might have an interest in attending. We will provide interactive displays to entertain and engage our visitors. Most significantly, we will provide informational sessions for potential graduate and undergraduate students.

what to see

There will be ongoing displays of student work. This includes models, hand and computer drawings, and digital presentations. Displays created by our student groups will cover topics such as student life style and study abroad opportunities. Winners from local high school design completion will also be up for viewing.

Play with Legos, color a picture of your house, marvel at the tiny, tiny stairs in a model, meet students and faculty, look at detailed aerial photographs of campus and beyond, explore the digital design world. There is fun for everyone at ARUPLA.
