Emerging Design
Technologies is an advanced graduate course devoted to intensive research
on select topics in newly emerging technologies in the design, construction
and operation of buildings. Students in this course define and develop in-depth
research programs to pursue and share over the course of the semester. The
research group meets weekly to discuss ideas and findings. Research and
discussion focus on analyzing and developing new technologies for enhancing
and humanizing the design process in relation to construction, building
users, site, environment, and life-cycle cost considerations. Current topics
include, but are not limited to, wearable computers for integrated design
and construction, global positioning and geographical information systems
for on-site design, nanotechnology and architecture, and intelligent design
systems. Individual topics are determined through student-instructor discussion.
Advanced graduate standing and consent.
