President for Academic Affiars
Bruce Clark (2nd Year Grad/Track 3)
I am a believer that individuals can be agents of change. I have seen how the program at the School of Architecture has been undergoing change, and I believe that the student body has the corporate ability to have a positive and lasting influence on the changes that they see being implemented here.
I know that I can help provide an effective channel of communication through which that influence can be directed. If I am elected as President of Academic Affairs for ASAC, I can assure the architectural student body that their voice will be fully heard, measured, and represented within the halls of decision. I am passionate about my education and look for every opportunity to engage the academic community that I find myself part of. I am very involved in many behind-the-scene activities and functions of the School of Architecture and find opportunities to lead through influence and relationship. I have contacts with faculty, staff, and administration on all levels throughout the school already which can only be enhanced through a position such as this.
My maturity and experience in the working world serve me well in understanding how to engage in and maintain dialogue with any social group. I understand many of the essences and nuances of this architecture program, and I am convinced that I can be an effective voice for our body of students.
Tyler Matteson (Sophomore)
I am a very passionate person when it comes to certain things in my life that I truly care about: family, friends, education, etc… The list goes on and on. What is important in this case is though is my education and that of all of my fellow piers within the School of Architecture.
I take a lot of pride in attending the University of Illinois and I consider myself very fortunate to be here. I take even more pride in the fact that I am a student within the School of Architecture! As a student I personally feel that I should be taking an active roll in the development of MY OWN education here on campus. ASAC is an organization that allows me to do just that. Our school and college is never going to be perfect, but it is my hope that through organizations such as ASAC, we may begin the process of making UIUC Architecture the best that it can possibly be.
We live in an ever changing world and what may have been right for the School of Architecture 10 years ago isn’t what is right for it now. There are changes to be made and there is improvement to be had. Students, and not just administration and faculty, also have a roll to play in this process. It is a roll that I personally believe students should feel privileged to take a part in. This is why I want to be President of Academic Affairs. I believe that one person; one organization can make an impact. I believe that I can make an impact…even if in the smallest of ways.
If elected as President of Academic Affairs I will continue to work with my fellow classmates and piers from within the School of Architecture so that we may continue building a better education and environment that will foster the highest quality of learning.

Vice President for Academic Affiars
Emily Bateman (Senior)
My name is Emily Bateman and I am nominating myself for the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs for the 2008-2009 school year. I am currently a senior and will be attending UIUC this fall as a graduate student in architecture. I am very interested in doing everything that I can to make UIUC's Architecture program everything that it should be. I have been an extremely active AIAS member for the past year and served as AIAS Secretary during the Spring 2008 Semester. I served as a chair on the Midwest Quad Planning Committee. As part of my duties as a Planning Chair for the conference, I organized seminars and tours, promoted the conference, assisted with the scheduling of events and volunteers, and also helped to run some of the planning meetings. I also was an active member of Freedom by Design this past year. I took on a temporary leadership role for Freedom by Design when there was a transition in its leadership positions. Outside of AIAS I am also a member of the Gargoyle Honor Society. I also volunteered for the setup for ASAC's Critical Mass this year.
My organizational skills and enthusiasm for improving the Architecture Program at UIUC would make me an asset to ASAC's goals. My main goal for ASAC in the coming year would be to provide students with more outlets to express their concerns and desires for the program and then communicate these to the Director. I would also like to make sure that current and incoming students are more aware of the changes in the academic policy and program that have been occurring.
Jacob Mellor (Junior)
My name is Jacob Mellor and I am currently a junior in the Study Abroad Program in Versailles. I would like to nominate myself for the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs. I feel that the organization is under-appreciated at present and needs a group of students to bring it new life. As Vice President of Academic Affairs I think I can communicate with the student body and increase student interests in the happenings and ideas associated with ASAC.

Vice President for Events & Programming
Rossitza Kotelova (Sophomore)
My name is Rossitza Kotelova, I am a sophomore in the School of Architecture, and I would like to nominate myself for Vise President of Programming and Events of the Architecture Student Advisory Council.
The principle aspect of a worthy education is flexibility. The rules which applied to our grandparent’s generation do not necessarily apply to us. ASAC plays a crucial role in making sure that the students have representation regarding their education. It is your education and it is my education and I want to help improve it so that it would be worthy of us.
A complete education involves more than just smaller class sizes, more course options, and more flexible schedules (though they are important nonetheless). It is also about the experience which we can’t read about in an information packet. The lasting friendships, the endless networks, and even the mere acquaintances are the reasons why we chose an environment with 40,000 students rather than 4,000. My desire to get involved with ASAC is an extension of my purpose in extracting the most out of my education while attending the University of Illinois.
Jennifer Sin (Junior)
My name is Jennifer Sin and I am currently a junior in the Study Abroad Program in Versailles. I would like to nominate myself for the position of Vice President for Programming and Events. During my sophomore year, I was the co-president of the Ecological Design Consortium and helped turn the club back into an active architectural student organization, especially by helping to plan UIUC's School of Architecture's first annual green design competition, Green Rescheme. I have also had experience as the web designers for EDC and Women in Architecture for the past two years, and I feel that with this combined experience with the architectural student organizations that I would make a great candidate as the Vice President for Programming and Events of ASAC.

Information Director
Mark Prikazsky (Sophomore)
Currently in my second year in architecture, I would like to take a more active roll in the program. I am passionate about the field and feel that I can provide valuable input to the administration. I have worked at a small architecture firm for the past three years near my home town. The internship has given me valuable experience in the field by working with clients, construction documents, and how to stay organized. Additionally, I hold a vice presidential position in my fraternity that specifically deals with communication in our chapter as well as our alumni. This position has given me experience with maintaining a website, sending out e-mails to our chapter, as well as planning events. With my previous experiences as well as my dedication to the field of architecture, I think I would make a good Information Director for ASAC.
